The transfer season has begun, and top European clubs are ready to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. Some top superstars compete in two continental competitions, while others have returned to the club to prepare for the new season. The next season is set to bring some exciting challenges, especially in the Bundesliga.
Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga and will be chased by the other big names this time. The likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are already working on bringing the title back. There are also a few clubs in Germany that are looking to get back to their best. One such club in the mix is Wolfsburg. The Wolves ended the 2023-24 season in 12th position. They are a top-half team that has struggled a bit in recent seasons.
Wolfsburg are aiming to return to their best and have already started to take steps towards success. The Wolves recently signed a young striker who has a bright future ahead. Mohamed Amoura, an Algerian national, joined the club from Union SG. He started his career in his home country. Swiss side Lugano brought him to Europe in 2021. After two successful seasons in Switzerland, the 24-year-old was signed by Belgian giants, Union SG. Amoura performed decently and won the Belgian Cup. Let’s look at what this forward could add to the attack of the German giants.
Impressive debut in Belgium
Mohamed Amoura played in his third season in Europe. He played for the first time in Belgium and gave some big performances. The above viz shows the percentile rank of the forward in comparison to other forwards in Tier 1,2 and 3 of league football. Amoura is ranked way above average in the attacking as well as the possession department. This shows that he is not only a goal-scorer but can also link play with his teammates.
The 24-year-old ended up in the Belgian Pro League 2023-24 season with 18 goals. The forward played slightly on the left and most of his shots came from that particular side. On occasions, Amoura found space around and inside the six-yard box.
This plot demonstrates the striker’s goal-scoring efficiency by comparing their expected goals to actual goals scored per 90 minutes. Union SG’s forward was at the top of the table for efficiency in front of the goal. This shows that Amoura enjoyed plenty of success in Belgium.
Offering more to the team
Mohamed Amoura played on the left side of the attack. His progressive runs show that the forward can play in the wider zones. On occasion, he used to make some progressive runs to penetrate the opposition penalty box. The forward also won a few fouls for his team, including a penalty. This shows that Amoura offers plenty more than scoring goals.
The above scatter plot correlates the striker’s involvement in the team’s passing game with their presence in the opponent’s box, highlighting their role in the attacking phase. Despite playing on the left, Amoura was able to take touches inside the opposition penalty box.
Two goals in the UEFA Europa League show that Amoura is a confident striker. He will be crucial for the Wolves in their hunt for European places.
New partnership
Jonas Wind led Wolfsburg’s attack and ended up with 11 goals. He will play with his new attacking partner in the upcoming season. Wind is more of an attacker who stays in the central zones. Amoura will offer width and these two can link up plays. The scoring zones are a bit similar for both of these players.
Wolfsburg will aim for a better 2024-25 season. They have a chance to return back to their best and become a top name in Germany.
