There might never be a best time to face Bayern Munich, but after they have suffered a humiliating defeat certainly might be the worst time.
Indeed, the Bavarian giants that everyone has become accustomed to winning the Bundesliga over the last decade without fail recently suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend and their upcoming fixture against 1. FC Koln is likely to be one in which Julian Naglesmann’s team will want to exact revenge.
They might just do that if the odds are anything to go by, with Betway Sportsbook pricing them at 4/11 heavy favourites to come out victorious on their away trip on Saturday afternoon.
According to Bild, it would seem 1. FC Koln will want to set up the barricades for an onslaught this weekend, too, as they have claimed that the current champions have managed to create an ‘A Team’ and a ‘B Team’ for the fixture.
They have been revealed to look like the following:
- Possible A-Eleven: Manuel Neuer — Benjamin Pavard, Niklas Süle, Angelo Brückner — Joshua Kimmich, Marc Roca — Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala, Marcel Sabitzer — Robert Lewandowski.
- Possible B-Eleven: Sven Ulreich — Jamie Lawrence, Nicolas Feldhahn, Omar Richards — Corentin Tolisso, Bright Arrey-Mbi — Nemanja Motika, Timo Kern, Paul Wanner, Malik Tillman — Lucas Copado
Indeed, both teams look rather frightening, although the hosts may be wishing that they will come up against Team B instead of the first one.
When taking a look at the previous meeting between the two sides earlier in the season, fans were treated to a rather entertaining encounter as they saw five goals be scored in a 3-2 victory for the Bavarians, with each of them being scored in the second half of the game.
Robert Lewandowski got things underway for Naglesmann’s side to begin with in the 50th minute, whilst Serge Gnabry added one more nine minutes later.
However, 1. FC Koln fought back valiantly and actually shocked many with what they were able to do as they drew level inside a couple of minutes, with both goals coming moments after Gnabry took the score to 2-0.
A minute after going two down, Anthony Modeste netted before Mark Uth levelled the contest up in the 62nd minute.
However, Gnabry had other ideas, though, as he grabbed his second of the match and Bayern’s third to secure the 3-2 victory at the Allianz Arena.
It will be interesting to see what happens out on the pitch, but it would be hard to imagine Bayern suffering a second straight defeat in the Bundesliga, right?
