The 28-year-old is available at no cost at the end of the season, with both Bundesliga sides using a gap to fill at the right side of defence.
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are equally interested in signing Thomas Meunier when his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires at the end of the season.
The two Bundesliga sides held talks with Meunier’s entourage before PSG played with Dortmund at the first leg of the Champions League last-16 clash in February.
Dortmund are eager to secure a replacement for Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi, who’s expected to return to the Santiago Bernabeu when his two-year deal comes to a close in the summer.
Meanwhile, Bayern need a pure first-choice right-back, with Joshua Kimmich has moved into midfield and Benjamin Pavard more comfortable in the middle of defence.
Meunier, 28, is free to go over terms with other clubs as his contract winds down, but he has not decided on his future yet.
The Belgian worldwide has made more than 120 appearances since joining from Club Brugge four seasons ago but it now seems his period in Ligue 1 could be coming to an end.
Meunier has also been connected with Arsenal and Manchester United previously and was asked about his contract situation close to the end of the January transfer window.
“Nothing has changed,” he explained at the moment. “Still no news, the direction are occupied with other players. We’ll see after February 1, we’ll sit around the table.”
Dortmund fans may still hold out hope that a permanent deal are available for Hakimi, that has been hugely impressive during his time at the club.
However, the 21-year-old Morocco global appears keen on testing himself in Madrid.
Dani Carvajal still retains a firm grasp on the right-back position, having fought off a challenge from Alvaro Odriozola — who has played 90 minutes since joining Bayern on loan in January.
“I am not going to lie, I would really like to become a success there, needless to say,” Hakimi told AS this past year.
“I grew up at Madrid, it is the club I call home and I’d love to continue growing as a player there, but when it is not to be I’ll seem to be a success somewhere else.
“Right now, I am only focusing on taking each game as it comes and acting to the best of my ability. Next summer’s still a little way off and we will just have to see what happens.
“I shouldn’t begin thinking about next year – I just need to focus on having a fantastic campaign. That is the only way I will have choices open to me come the end of the season.
“My deal here continues for a couple of decades. When the time comes, I will see if I have done enough over these 2 decades and whether I’m prepared for Real Madrid.
“Right now, I feel like I am doing well, and that if I keep playing like this, I could do a job for Madrid. But I can not say whether I’m prepared until the end of the season. Ask me in May.”
